A note from a webinar held by ANU Indonesia Project and Dr Onno W Purbo, an information technologist. This webinar summary is followed by additional research from the writer.

Some key takeaways (for me personally) from the webinar are:

Most of the cyber attack in Indonesia comes from China and mostly done by robot. They mostly attack private sector instead of government.

“By far the biggest actors on the cyber attacks are China and Russia, with almost 35% of global attacks originating in either China or Russia.” https://www.privacyaffairs.com/geopolitical-attacks/

As we work from home (WFH) in the pandemic, it makes a company more vulnerable than work from office (WFO) where they have better IT cybersecurity infrastructure than our home or café. In addition, employee is the weakest link in the organization other than customers.

“According to the National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN), cyberattacks in Indonesia almost doubled to more than 495 million cases in 2020, the highest figure ever recorded by the agency, established in 2017.” https://www.thejakartapost.com/paper/2021/07/15/cyberattacks-loom-as-employees-work-from-home.html.
